Virtual self-defence for Women’s Day

The challenge is expected to be ongoing for the next four weeks, where women will learn different self-defence techniques.

Seventeen women brought out their fighting spirit during the self-defence virtual challenge hosted by iLead Self Defense. On August 7, Risha Harie, founder of iLead taught women valuable tips and tricks to protect themselves in the face of danger.

The challenge is expected to be ongoing for the next four weeks, where Harie will teach self-defence techniques. She said Saturday’s event covered two areas of defence. “We discussed the strongest part of your body and the weakest part of the attacker’s body, and presented different self-defence scenarios. These techniques are for everyone, and some people had their kids join in. It was a lot of fun. I showed how to use your hands, knees, and elbows to defend yourself.”

The classes are hosted not only to empower women should they ever be in danger, but to make self-defence second nature. Harie acknowledged the perception that self-defence is difficult. “I’m teaching women how to defend themselves now. All you need is the willingness to learn and practise the techniques. We cannot emphasise this enough; practising self-defence regularly will help your body understand what it needs to do to help you survive in a bad situation.” She said training regularly prepares the body; doing self-defence regularly will help you in situations where you need to react because it will become part of your muscle memory,” she concluded.
