Have you seen Shaka?

'Shaka was all my father had left of his late wife, Nelie,'

Local residents are looking for their elderly father’s beloved dog who went missing on Monday, August 9 near Alexander Street in Florida. Shaka is a black, long-legged Doberman Pincher. He isn’t chipped and has no collar.

Willem Janse van Noordwyk, 78, who lives in Oviston in the Eastern Cape, was visiting his stepdaughter in Roodepoort when little Shaka escaped from the yard.

“Shaka was all my father had left of his late wife, Nelie. When their previous dog, Heidi passed away seven years ago, they got Shaka. That little dog was like a child in their home. He only ate chicken drumsticks and was always carried to bed where he would sleep in my dad’s arms,” Gezina Botes from Westdene explained.

“Shaka went everywhere with them – even when they came to visit, he came along. Nelie passed away in July last year and Shaka was his only company where he lives alone in Oviston. My father still likes to travel and Shaka was his co-pilot. He has been very sad and lost without his best friend.”

A R1 000 reward is promised for the person who returns Shaka.
