Leaders against bullying hike for a good cause
The purpose of the hike was to try and get the kids to understand what bullying is, and to remember what they stand for, which is truth and righteousness.
The Ipeleng Cares Foundation (ICF) based in Fleurhof took yet another stride towards addressing the issue of bullying by providing solutions to schools and related stakeholders on the subject.
Saturday, August 7 saw the ICF host a mentor and leader hike against bullying that was facilitated by Portia Keta at Kloofendal Nature Reserve.
According to the founding director of ICF, Ipeleng Mofokeng, the purpose of the hike was to try and get the kids to understand what bullying is, and to remember what they stand for, which is truth and righteousness.
“Today we do a hike against bullying where the leaders against bullying from ICF are joined for the first time by their mentors; this is because we have been doing everything online,” said Ipeleng.
People who are not part of the leaders against bullying also participated in the hike. They were introduced into the programme and got to understand what ICF does.
Tiasha Jacobs who is one of the mentors revealed to the Northsider/ Record that she did the hike just to introduce herself to the learners and get to know them a little bit more.

“We are here to connect and bond with everyone so that they can be comfortable in telling us when they need help,” said Tiasha.
According to another mentor, Tamia Kobuoe, they are doing the hike to create awareness on bullying and what has been happening in the country, the most important reason being that of showing unity.
Marry-Ann Charles is mother to one of the leaders against bullying, and she shared with the Northsider/ Record that her son is very active in the group and does all the activities.
“I think it is a good thing for him to get out and just to get exposure, although it’s his first time going on a hike.
“To be part of the leaders against bullying initiative is good for him as I believe it will help him become a caring adult,” said Marry-Ann.
ICF is a not-for-profit company based in Johannesburg, and has been working to identify psychosocial challenges that affect children and find sustainable solutions to them.
