Close to 300 arrested over the weekend

Weekend operations on the West Rand yielded positive results with close to 300 arrests made by the police.

Weekend operations on the West Rand yielded positive results with police making over 200 arrests. According to Sergeant Mulalo Ndou, communications officer for the Muldersdrift Police, 281 suspects were arrested from August 20 to August 22. “One person was arrested for attempted murder; 25 for domestic violence; and 18 for possession of drugs. The suspects were arrested for different crimes such as assault, shoplifting and possession of a dangerous weapon.”

The West Rand District police commissioner Major General Fred Kekana welcomed the arrests and all crime-prevention efforts by both the police and the community. “I’d like to thank all members of the police and other law-enforcement agencies for making sure that those who are in conflict with the law are brought to book, and face the full might of the law.”

Kekana also condemned acts of gender-based violence in our communities following an incident where a woman’s body was found at a Randfontein dumping site after she was allegedly raped. Community members are encouraged to report such acts to the police immediately.

Residents are reminded to adhere to level three lockdown regulations.

All the suspects arrested during the weekend are expected to appear in different Magistrates’ Courts.
