Authenticity is the secret ingredient in business

The workshops are held weekly to help keep the small business community resilient and strong.

Authenticity in business has become a rare commodity as many young and upcoming business owners copy what they believe to be winning formulas. It is true that there are certain principles that add to the success of a business, but authenticity and believing in your product are what will set anyone apart.

Business woman and executive director of Hirsch’s, Margaret Hirsch hosted an entrepreneurship workshop on August 20 alongside business coach, Marlene Powell. CEO of Sotheby’s International Realty South Africa, Yael Geffen advised, “Don’t fake it ‘till you make it. Market yourself at a place of authentic confidence.” The guest speaker revealed that consumers say authenticity is a key factor when deciding what brands to support. “They need to be able to trust the brand if they are going to interact with it in any way. Yes, self-promotion is great, but it needs to come from a place of authentic confidence.”

Geffen said as an entrepreneur, you need to be the person that people want to root for to succeed, not the one they delight in watching fail.

The entrepreneurship workshops are hosted virtually every Friday morning to help keep the small business community resilient and strong. Margaret Hirsch said, “We are here to help you stay strong. Stay resilient, don’t pour from an empty cup, and try not to attend every argument you get invited to.”
