Soup in a jar for spring
“We have seen a huge increase in the number of families suffering due to a loss of income resulting from lockdown, and the ripple effect will be felt for a long time coming."
As part of their Spring Good Turn, the 1st Krugersdorp Girl Guides made 40 soup jars each feeding eight people at the Guide Hall at Monument Dam in Krugersdorp.
All the participating learners are from St Ursula’s School, and the soup jars were handed over to the Roodepoort-based Charity Begins With Me which provides meals for those in need.
“We have seen a huge increase in the number of families suffering due to a loss of income resulting from lockdown, and the ripple effect will be felt for a long time coming.
“We are very grateful for the support, as non-perishable food items go such a long way.
“The soup-in-a-jar initiative is great and makes the biggest difference,” said Stephan Ferreira from Charity Begins With Me.
As the girls master different skills, they are awarded with badges to mark their progress. Hiking, camping and canoeing are some of the adventures they participate in.
