Lions and Absolut Security host charity golf day

With perfect weather, a beautiful venue and some extremely generous golfers much-needed funds were raised.

On Thursday, September 2 Absolute Security in association with the Lions Club of Wilro Park held their annual Charity Golf Day at the Eagle Canyon Golf Club in Honeydew.

According to Lions Club president, Sandy van Heerden, all money raised will go towards the funding of their Five Pillars of Service projects which are vision, diabetes, hunger, childhood cancer and environment. In addition to these pillars, they are also very involved with youth and gender-based violence related issues.

Players were welcomed by Choc (Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa) members who were visible at hole 16, as September is also Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The Lions Club used this opportunity to raise both awareness and funds to keep hope alive for all children who are sadly fighting cancer, and need all the help and support they can get.

After all the players had completed their rounds, a very lively auction, hosted by MC and auctioneer Pieter Moller, was held during the evening prize-giving.

“It has been a very difficult almost two years for fundraising events such as our annual Wilro Lions Golf Day and annual Wilro Lions Cycle Challenge due to Covid-19 and its restrictions, but this year Absolut Security came to our rescue and saved the day as they always do,” Sandy said.

“We thank Absolut Security (Esme Alberts, Sunette Pretorius and their team) for all their hard work, our sponsors of some great prizes and items for the Charity Auction, Eagle Canyon, the golfers who supported us, and members of the Lions Club of Wilro Park for supporting this very important annual Fundraising Charity Golf Day – we are very grateful.”

“We trust all these projects will greatly benefit from the funds raised at the event, and we are very thankful for every single person who contributed to the cause,” Sandy concluded.
