On Friday morning, September 10, a Community Support Services (CSS) response vehicle was doing patrols and as they entered the Ridge Terrace Shopping Centre, the security guards in the complex saw thugs trying to steal batteries from a cell phone tower.
The would-be thieves ran away and were pursued by the CSS response vehicle into Wildebraam Street, Weltevreden Park. One of them was caught and arrested after jumping a fence on Jim Fouche Road.

Police were called to the scene and they took the suspect back to the shopping centre. When other police cars arrived, the suspect confessed and told the police they attempted to steal the batteries.
Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan confirmed that a case of theft was opened and that the matter was under police investigation.

“There were two suspects. One of them managed to escape while we arrested the other one, who will appear in court on Monday, September 13,” said Muthan.
