A night of magic at the Winter Wonderland
Families in and around Poortview enjoyed a night market and wonderful lights at the Winter Wonderland
The Winter Wonderland provided an evening of sparkle and dazzle at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden.
Families in all shapes and sizes enjoyed some downtime on September 11 and were enchanted by all the lights. The Wonderland included a night market of artisan food, beauty products, arts and crafts, and enough sugar to keep the little ones going the entire weekend.

Antoinette de Beer, organiser of the event said, “We are trying to create a safe environment for families to come and spend time. We don’t want a quick 30 minutes where they are in and out; we want them to spend time here as a family. With Covid-19, we have all been huddled up at home so it’s nice to be out in nature.”

Aside from the lights and treats, the little ones were thrilled to meet some of their favourite characters from Disney, including Sully and Mike from Monsters Inc, and Olaf and Sven from Frozen. Reesa Jada said, “It’s beautiful. This is such a lovely experience for the kids.”

Many of the residents shared that after months of being cooped up indoors it was a great experience to be out and of course, the event got the kids’ seal of approval.

The Wonderland will run every Friday and Saturday night in September, as well as on Heritage Day.
