Davidsonville bookworms will have to utilise alternative libraries for the next four months or so, while their library is receiving a much-needed facelift.
Beulah Jones, the Branch Librarian was joined by library staff members on Thursday, September 16, to pack up the library’s 10 000 books to ensure they are not damaged during the repairs and maintenance process. She said, “Members are welcome to use the Roodepoort, Witpoortjie, Horizon View and Wilro Park libraries to return and borrow books. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
The Ward 71 councillor, René Benjamin elaborated on this project, saying, “The project will be undertaken by Community Development Department Facilities in Region C, and is expected to take four months to complete. The cost of this project is R3 400 852.”
She added that 30% of the project will be awarded to local small, medium and micro-enterprises (SMMEs). “The number of SMMEs and local labour will be made available when the responsible entity introduces the project to the public. A Client Liaison Officer (CLO) will be appointed soon,” she said.
René outlined the scope of the work that will be done at the library, which will include the following:
• Site establishment
• Repainting the fence

• Removing and re-installing flooring with carpets
• Installing kitchen cabinets
