Warriors brunch brings survivors together
'We find that too many people are giving up hope when fighting their battle,'
Cancer can be a devastating experience. Most patients survive the radiation and chemotherapy treatments and are considered modern-day warriors, but the experience usually causes these warriors to view life in a new and often painful way.
To make it all hurt a little less, local stage 2 breast cancer survivor, Renée Singh dedicates all her time, love and support to those diagnosed with cancer. In efforts to encourage them, she – as part of Warriors with a Purpose – decided to host a very special Warriors Brunch on Saturday, September 11.

This event was held at Paddy’s at Florida Lake and welcomed many cancer warriors, referred to by Renée as ‘Kings and Queens with a Purpose’. Not only did they create awareness around cancer, but also managed to spread some joy, motivation and positive vibes to all patrons visiting the establishment.
Paddy’s management and staff also joined in the festivities by wearing Warriors with a Purpose T-shirts and caps. This way they were also able to spread some awareness around the worthy cause.
“It was such an amazing day; people from young to old listened intently to everything we had to say about the forms of cancer. Women were over-inspired by the warriors who educated them on the issue, and general fun was had by everyone who attended on the day,” Renée said.
Warriors were especially excited when Nhlanhla Khumalo – better known as Momzo – showed up at the brunch. Momzo is a breast cancer survivor who dedicates her time and effort to managing the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital and hosting cancer awareness drives as part of both Warriors with a Purpose and Cancervive.
“Momzo truly inspires us. We find that too many people are giving up hope when fighting their battle, and that’s why we want to be there for them to encourage them to keep on fighting. God gives his toughest battles to his toughest soldiers, and everyone should remember that,” Renée said.

Another patient, Caroline Makgopya, who is currently receiving treatment, fondly expressed her gratitude towards the Warriors with a Purpose family. She went on to say that Renée has been with her every step of the journey and has encouraged her to remain strong and positive throughout her fight.
“We are grateful for our warriors family. We care about each other and only want the best for one another. As long as we are alive, we must fight harder to overcome the storm,” Renée said.
She thanked all warriors, supporters, Lorsons and True Lubricants for their love and support. Warriors with a Purpose is looking forward to their next cancer awareness event, which is expected to take place in October.
