Donate to keep Place A Pup’s doors open
The animal shelter's increasing vet bills have made it difficult to keep rescuing animals
Animal shelters have been under enormous pressure during this pandemic as many people had to surrender their pets due to unemployment or moving abroad. However, a lot of these centres are non-profit and with donations few and far between, many have had to turn away animals or close their doors.
Jessica Dias, who owns and operates Place A Pup said they are currently hanging on by hope to get funding. “We are worried now. We have 160 dogs in our care and our vet bills are increasing. We rescue from all over, but we also assist three other shelters and work in townships as well. We are desperate for food donations as well as help with our vet bill which is at R40 000 now.”
The foundation handles sterilisations, micro-chipping, de-worming and vaccinations. Jessica said they have 70 adoptions a month and are always looking for volunteers.
They are planning an open day on November 14. “We will be opening our adoption and daycare services. We are going to have bands such as Wonderboom, and vendors. We also hope people will adopt a pup on the day and join our R100 care club.”
The R100 care club is a donations programme where people can donate R100 per month for a year. This goes towards cleanings products and food. You can make a donation to:
