Young female pastor shares the inspirational benefits of quality education

Ayanda Cetywayo receives honours at Westcol awards ceremony

Each step up the educational ladder is reason for celebration.

Receiving significant tertiary accolades, Ayanda Cetywayo is taking further steps to greatness. The Matholesville resident and youth pastor was among the top achievers recognised at an award ceremony at Westcol TVET College. Currently completing her National Certificate in Tourism NQF Level 6, her standout achievement was receiving the CUM Laude with honours award, which she received for being the overall top student.

Ayanda uses her blend of passion and inspirational words to encourage young people to seize every moment. “As a female coming from a previously disadvantaged group in society, I have realised that the world does not owe me any favours. I believe that choices and not circumstances determine our success. Therefore as young people we have a choice to choose education despite our circumstances. Success is not for the strong nor the mighty, nor for the able, nor for the gifted, but time and chance are given to all,” Ayanda said.

The young firebrand believes wholeheartedly in the power that education together with faith can yield. “We can use education to combat crime, eradicate poverty, address gender-based violence and inequality in our society. Society needs to have spiritual leaders who will strengthen their faith in ensuring that there is discipline, morals, humility and kindness. Additionally, the church leaders and teachers should work together to host empowerment and life skill sessions,” she added.

Personally, Ayanda aims to strive for excellence by setting and exceeding her goals. By building good study habits she plans to further her studies and obtain an honours degree in Public Relations while staying resilient against challenges. Quoting former president Nelson Mandela, she concluded, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world”.
