Preloved goods given second chance

The event was held to raise much-needed funds for the various ministries in which the church community is involved.

They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. What better way to benefit from the unused goods at the back of your cupboard than to sell it to thrift seekers for a good cause?

On Saturday, November 6 the Horison Methodist Church hosted a Car Boot Sale and Roadhouse fundraiser. According to organisers Gladys Bell and Vanessa Kilian it was held to raise much-needed funds for the various ministries in which the church community is involved.

“We try to host these at least four times a year but we have been limited by the many lockdowns and Covid restrictions. At the moment we try our best to host them as regularly as possible while adhering to all protocols,” Vanessa said.

Visitors had the opportunity to sift through items such as jewellery, home-made goods, pots, pans, books, material, clothes, shoes and plenty of bric-a-brac, to name just a few.

“Even though people pay to book a parking space and sell their unwanted, usable household goods the profits from their sales are theirs to keep. We are happy to announce that the event was a huge success. With more than 20 spaces booked and lots of yummy food for sale we managed to raise a very tidy, much-needed sum to boost our fundraising balance,” Vanessa explained.

“If you have never done something like this before and really want to dispose of unwanted items I highly recommend that you give it a go. You will be absolutely amazed at how much extra cash you can put in your pocket for items you thought had no value. We are super excited to host the next car boot sale around the end of January next year.”

Vanessa and Gladys would like to thank everyone who supported the event by booking a spot and buying some pre-loved goods and yummy treats.

“Without them we would not have raised these much-needed funds. We are super excited to see everyone at our next sale,” she concluded.
