Journalists thanked with something sweet
We were pleasantly surprised when we received a sweet surprise from a local realtor on National Journalism Day.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the definition of a journalist is a person who writes news stories or articles for a newspaper or magazine or broadcasts them on radio or television.
In essence this is true, but being a journalist (especially a community journalist), is so much more. Journalists often have erratic work hours, are constantly on their toes and have to deal with the pressure of covering every breaking news incident. Add to this the pressure of always having to question if they have all the right facts to ensure the right story goes out, as well as trying to keep their ethics and morals intact, it is definitely not a job for the faint-hearted. It is also a profession that does not receive a lot of thanks.
“So, why do you do it, then?” you might ask, and the honest answer you will receive from almost every journalist will be simple, “Because I love being in a position where I can tell the people’s stories, no matter what it takes”.
With all of this said, can you imagine the delight when the journalists from the Caxton West Rand office received a surprise visit from a local real estate agent on November 17 with some sweet treats in hand? She informed us that she brought us all a small token of appreciation, in celebration of National Journalism Day, and to say thank you for all we do.
Yes, it is true that we chose to be journalists, and everything associated with it, but every now and then it is nice to know your efforts are being recognised and appreciated.
Until next week, stay safe and look out for each other …
