Preschool staff and learners host a successful clean-up in Matholesville

According to the Principal Lungiswa Gabazana, involving children in clean up campaigns assists with fostering them into adults that are responsible to the environment and able to work harmoniously with others.

The primary objective of a clean-up campaign is to encourage communities to take collective responsibility for the natural environment around them and discourage the act of dropping litter which is a social behaviour that can only be remedied through social measures.

On Friday, November 19 the learners and staff of Warm Shelter Day and After Care in Matholesville rolled up their sleeves and cleaned surrounding streets in their efforts to demonstrate their willingness to make a difference in the community.

According to the Principal Lungiswa Gabazana, involving children in clean-up campaigns assists with fostering them into adults that are responsible to the environment and able to work harmoniously with others.

“We want to give back the service to our community; we want to show our leaders of tomorrow how to keep the neighbourhood clean and safe while teaching them not to litter. They must learn to stay in a healthy environment. Even when they are grown up they must take care if their houses and community,” said Lungiswa.

Warm Shelter Day and After Care was established in 2015 after Lungiswa graduated from her Educare studies from South West Gauteng TVET College.

The preschool started with six learners and currently has 70 children with four classes and four educators, Busi Nkwana, Phatty Khayingana, Portia Khosi Khau and Nolusindiso Dyantyi.

“We are so happy and enjoy working with kids because we are passionate about them. Children need to be loved from the early development phase,” said Lungiswa.
