Allen’s Nek duathlete claims victory in North West
Glenn admitted that the last part of the race got really warm but fortunately for him he usually enjoys racing in hot conditions.
Local resident and top international duathlete Glenn Macnamara is grateful for his victory in the North West Triathlon and Duathlon Series on Saturday, November 13.
In very hot conditions along the Vaal River, the Allen’s Nek resident proved to be second to none as he managed to finish first in his category.
According to Glenn, a few weeks before the race he felt out of sorts. He revealed to the Northsider that about 10 days before the race he felt his form coming back and knew he was ready to compete.
“I was looking forward to this race as my form was returning, my training was fine but I was not running as well as I had been this year. I felt my concentration was erratic.”
The race went quite smooth for the most part, while he made some strategic changes in his approach which worked out favourably this time.
“I started feeling physically stronger again which was encouraging. I had a comfortable lead so I decided to slow myself down on the final 3km of the race.

“When I finished the temperature was 37 degrees. Sport is so competitive and one seldom wins often so I was really grateful to win this event,” said Glenn.
He admitted that the last part of the race got really warm but fortunately for him he usually enjoys racing in hot conditions.
The triathlon is a continuous swim-cycle-run event, and for the non-swimmers it included a duathlon which is a continuous run-cycle-run event where athletes aged between six and 69 participate over various distances.
