Save the rhinos with African Effect fundraiser

Welridge Academy will host the African Effect fundraiser for rhino conservation

Bring along your good vibes and open hearts for the African Effect fundraiser that will be held on November 28 at Welridge Academy. The aim of the event is to raise funds for Care For Wild, which is a rhino sanctuary.

Dorette Crous from Talent Forever said they chose Care For Wild because the NPO took a hard knock when lockdown was initiated in 2020. “No overseas volunteers were allowed in South Africa, because the borders were closed. They really need volunteers to work on the farm so that they can get funding that way,” she said. “It is also a lot of hard work looking after a baby rhino. People don’t realise the amount of work that goes into taking care of these animals. It is not just physical care but emotional care as well.” Dorette shared her first-hand experience volunteering at the sanctuary, an experience she described as amazing.

The event will be jam-packed with entertainment from artists such as Shaun Dee, Zanzi Africa, Dodo and Zahn. There will also be a beauty pageant to crown the next Miss African Effect and if that isn’t enough, residents can even show off their infamous skills in the Potjiekos competition.

Digital tickets can be purchased for R70 and R100 on the day. “We will also have a raffle. Some of our vendors were nice enough to chip in a product from their stall to create a goody box that they will raffle off. The other two raffle baskets will come from Round Square and Runis Campher, who are also among our sponsors,” Dorette shared. The event is set to begin at 9:00.
