Fundraiser to save the rhinos

The African Effect fundraiser at Welridge Academy brought out good old-fashioned fun on Sunday November 28. The event had live entertainment and music from artists such as Shaun Dee, Zanzi Africa and Zahn.

Dorette Crous from Talent Forever said the event was organised to raise crucial funds for Care For Wild rhino sanctuary.
“They really need volunteers to work on the farm so that they can continue to get funding. It is also a lot of hard work looking after a rhino calf, and it is a lot of work to take care of them. If they don’t have the manpower, it becomes a problem because they are also an NPO. They are really battling at the moment because of Covid-19,” she continued.
“I chose them because I know what it is like to work there. I worked on the farm for about a week, which was an amazing experience.”
With the weather surprisingly playing along, residents and community members enjoyed a day out filled with entertainment, more than enough to eat from food stalls, as well as craft gin and slushies (not together). Live music performances dazzled the crowd as well as the beauty pageant to crown the next Miss Africa Effect.

Singer and songwriter Shaun Dee said the day was an incredible opportunity for him to be on stage and spread some good. “It’s been a lot of fun. The artists who performed have been amazing and the day is perfect.”

“None of this would be possible without our sponsors including Welridge Academy that sponsored the grounds,” Dorette added.
