New year brings new life

Few moments in life are as special as the first time parents get to meet their newborn baby. For local parents, Melissa Strydom-Kahts and Hannes Kahts, this moment could not have come sooner.
Many parents would agree that there is no better feeling than hearing that first cry, holding your newborn baby in your arms for the first time, or even soaking up that newborn baby smell. On Saturday, January 1, this couple had the most magnificent opportunity when they experienced all that and so much more. On this day they not only welcomed a brand-new year, but also their beautiful baby boy, David Charles Strydom-Kahts.

This delightful bundle of joy was brought into the world at around 16:03 on New Year’s Day and weighed a very healthy 3,150kg. This was not the first time Melissa had given birth as their three-year-old daughter, Emma-Lee Strydom-Kahts had been waiting very impatiently for her little brother to come home.
“It’s a good thing that I’ve already been through this and knew what to expect, more or less. Everything went down super smoothly – from Life Flora Hospital’s service to the actual birth. The hospital did a very good job, and we were fortunate to go home after only two days,” she said.
Even though Melissa was already 40 weeks into her pregnancy, the birth still came as a pleasant surprise since the delivery had been scheduled for January 4.
“So far David seems like a very calm little boy. By looking at his lower lip, we can tell he’s going to look a lot like his father. His family already loves him so much. I can tell by the way his big sister is always eager to bottle-feed him,” she said.
Both Melissa and Hannes are thankful to have been entrusted with the gift of life, and can’t wait to get to know the newest addition to their family.
