Five children injured in morning accident on Albertina Sisulu Road

Traffic lights at busy intersection have not been working for several days.

Five children and the driver of a minibus taxi were injured in a Tuesday morning accident on January 18.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Albertina Sisulu Road and Nywerheid Street, an intersection that has had faulty traffic lights for much of the last week. First responders arrived on scene just after 07:00 to find a light motor vehicle and a minibus taxi obstructing morning traffic. The driver of the minibus taxi was found sitting in his vehicle while the passengers of the light motor vehicle had removed themselves from the car.

“Medics assessed the patients and found that five children from the car, aged between 12 and 14, had sustained minor injuries while the taxi driver had sustained serious injuries. Medics treated the patients and provided the taxi driver with pain-relief medication before they were transported to hospitals for further care,” confirmed ER24 Communications Officer, Russel Meiring,

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
