Honeydew Police and CPF visit local children’s home

Members from Honeydew Police and the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) recently visited the Ikolwa Children’s Home based in Weltevreden Park to hand over jackets to the children.
Each child within the care of the home was given a jacket which was sponsored by the Leapfrog Property Group.

Members of the Honeydew Police Station also took the time to talk to the kids and explain to them what the police force is about and what jobs are available within the organisation.
Honeydew CPF PRO Michael Steyn told the Northsider that the kids were truly amazed by all the different opportunities within the police.
“This was a great gesture and today many kids were made happy with something so small which many of us take for granted.
“We would like to thank Leapfrog for their assistance in making this possible,” said Michael.
On Wednesday, January 12 the Home had an exciting and busy morning when they prepared 15 children for the first day back at school. They have been hard at work getting uniforms, stationery, and prepping the children for their new school year.

The home has three little ones starting Grade R at Weltevreden Park Pre-school, one starting Grade 1, and two starting at new high schools as Grade 8s.
“The homes are all very quiet now without the chitter and chatter of the kids, but I think secretly the house moms are quite happy for some peace and quiet at last.
“The eldest will be going back to varsity for his second year of his Teaching degree, one will be starting at Birnam College to complete Chef School, and our young lady has started at Beauty Therapy Institute already to complete her Beauty Therapy diploma,” said Ikolwa Children’s Home General Manager Ulrike Mann.
