Panorama Residents Association hold AGM
The chairman also expressed the PRA’s gratitude to two committee members who sadly had passed away, thanking them for their contribution.
On Tuesday evening, January 25 the Panorama Residents Association (PRA) held their annual general meeting (AGM) at Panorama Primary School.
All PRA members were notified through Sector Groups on WhatsApp and the Northsider 30 days prior.
The meeting commenced at 19:00, and PRA chairman Dave Baxter explained that the PRA started 25 years ago and was revived by Jon Rosenberg in 2016.
In his chairman’s report, Dave told the members that in January 2021 the PRA had 448 households and the current number is at 505, indicating a 13% growth.
The chairman also expressed the PRA’s gratitude to two committee members who sadly had passed away, thanking them for their contribution.
The meeting heard that the PRA’s activities have resulted in significantly decreased crime stats during December 2021, a traditionally busy period crime-wise, as only one attempted household burglary was reported in the area.
“The role of the active RA, coupled with a proactive security paired with the CPF patrollers in the community resulted in the crime stats going down, as per renowned criminologist Prof Rudolph Zinn in his doctoral thesis on home invasions.
“Membership is not driven by money but by making the community better,” said Dave.
Michael Steyn, Deputy Chairman of the PRA reflected on the past and future projects before it was concluded that large projects have benefited the area and the momentum would continue into 2022 and beyond.
Nomination were received for new committee members before all the nominations were accepted and all nominees elected.
Ward councillors Leah Knott and David Brand were introduced, and they said they would be open to communicate with the PRA to ensure service delivery while strengthening the bonds between PRA and ward councillors.
Honeydew Police Sector 2 Manager, Warrant Officer Makhura thanked the PRA, security companies and CPF patrollers for their involvement and told the meeting that he was satisfied with the current low level of crime in the PRA area.
“Many donations are received from the community but the majority of resources are self-funded; the CPF is seeking business sponsorship,” said Chairman of the Honeydew CPF Sector 2 Jon Rosenberg.
Before the meeting adjourned, Dave called on attendees to raise issues and it was agreed upon that various items required attention and would be investigated further.
