On Saturday night, February 5 off-duty Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) volunteer patrollers were dispatched to assist with traffic control at an accident scene on the corner of JG Strydom Road and 9th Avenue in Weltevreden Park.
On the video footage it appears that the one driver went straight through a red light and then crashed into the back of the second car.

Fortunately, no one sustained serious injuries in the accident that saw several first responders arriving quickly to assist.
“It’s important to look left and right before entering an intersection. Make sure that the approaching vehicles are indeed slowing down before you accelerate into the intersection.
“We thank all first responders for their quick response to this accident and for assisting here.
“Should you want to join the CPF Volunteer Patroller programme you can contact Jon Rosenberg on 082 450 2305 and he will explain the process on how to join,” said Honeydew CPF PRO Michael Steyn.
Emergency services responded to several accidents on the same day, another one on Northumberland Avenue where two cars were involved.
Reportedly as response vehicles approached the second accident scene, someone drove into the back of an Emergency Response vehicle which had its red emergency lights on and was slowing down to assist.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department was dispatched as it was believed the driver who crashed into the back of the emergency vehicles was intoxicated.
A breathalyser test reregistered 0.32, which was over the legal limit of 0.24. The driver was detained and taken to Honeydew Police Station.
