People spilled out of the buildings due to the commotion on the corner of General Pienaar Avenue and Ham Street in Witpoortje on February 28. The cause of the commotion was two cars that had bumped each other in the intersection between the Total and Engen service stations.

The driver of the Nissan Navara recounted, “I had stopped at the stop sign and he was across the stop sign. I came and waited, and he had also stopped. When I turned into the road, he also went in. I was here first …”

“If you were first, why did you hit me here and not there,” the driver of the other vehicle interjected before he pointed at his Ford.

According to him he stopped to let a motorbike drive past in the main road before he turned in. “I came here and I stopped. There was a motorcycle and I allowed him to go. I started driving and the next moment this woman was driving into me. Look where I am and look where she is,” he pointed at both cars, one in the middle of the road and the other still next to the stop sign. “How does she hit me on the front of my passenger side and she tells me she was first?”

In this case of ‘he says/ she says’, Angie Bester, who witnessed the crash gave some clarity on what happened. “I was standing there at the garage and I saw the guy in the Ford turning this way into the road and then this woman just came rushing. He was already turning.”
