Close to 200 arrested during weekend operations

Police officers arrested 191 suspects in the West Rand during the weekend.

Police officers in the West Rand District arrested more than 190 suspects during the weekend of March 11 to March 13. Communications officer for Muldersdrift Police, Sergeant Mulalo Ndou said intelligence joint operations ensured that the community continued to feel safe and protected as their mandate is to prevent, combat and investigate crime, and maintain law and order.

“As law-enforcement agencies in the District, members of the police dealt with liquor-related crimes to minimise accidents and culpable homicide. Suspects were arrested for serious crimes including murder, domestic violence related crimes, possession of drugs, business robbery and rape.”

During the course of the weekend, officers also arrested suspects for shoplifting, possession of dangerous weapons, possession of dagga, malicious damage to property, and warrants of arrest. All arrested suspects are expected to appear in different magistrates’ courts in the District soon.

District Police Commissioner Major General PF Kekana welcomed the successes of the weekend and thanked all police members as well as other law-enforcement agencies for making sure that those who are in conflict with the law are brought to book. “We condemn the act of gender-based violence in our communities, and request the community members to report such behaviour to the police immediately.”
