The grazing donkeys were waiting patiently with food in mouth as the crowd started rolling in. There was an air of child-like excitement as the donkeys greeted the visitors when many of the children walked towards them, and nibbled their hands in search of treats.

Before long the field was filled with various community members interacting with the curious donkeys, enjoying the warm weather and browsing the trinkets and crafts on display at the tables set up across the field.

Throughout the day children were invited to create their own ‘sockimals’. They also ate cotton candy and played in the sun.

The judges agreed that picking a winner was definitely not easy, but they had a wonderful time listening to the local talent.

Haylee Conradie walked away with the first prize – a weekend at Schrikkloof Reserve, home of The Lions Foundation. Second place went to Harmony Stringfellow, who received a Rest Ur Ass hamper, which included a commemorative pillow, travel glass and donkey teddy, among other items.
