The march, which was also an outreach, was organised by the community of Davidsonville in partnership with the Roodepoort police, JMPD, Live Free, Freedom Recovery Centre, Synergistic Covenant, SOS, and Elizabeth Walk.

According to Sylvester Sauls, one of the organisers, the purpose of the peaceful march was to create awareness about substance abuse and to say enough is enough of the scourge.

JMPD, CPF and numerous other organisations, together with parents, former addicts and support groups were all led by Sauls.

“The community came out in numbers to stand up against substance abuse; this showed everybody that we are aware of the problem and doing something about it. The drug issue has become one of the greatest pandemic we’re facing. Considering all the families in the community that are affected by the issue, it is really sad. We need to take this serious because when we fight substance abuse we put an end to stealing, murder, rape, lies and all the other bad thing that come with drugs,” said Sauls.

When asked by the Record about any future plans to fight drugs, Sauls revealed that in July they will be going to Kroonstad and in August they will visit Klerksdorp to spread the word against drugs.

The day gave credit to the residents of Davidsonville for tackling the issue of substance abuse head-on and creating awareness about their drug abuse campaign.
