Residents united on Saturday, June 11 to bring about positive change in their community.

Melissa Jansen joined the volunteer group to make the area safer for everyone.

The green belt near the corner of Krugerrand Street and Sovereign Drive is known as a hive of criminal activity, some residents speculating that thieves hide in the bushes and watch their houses.

The safety of their families and the people around them brought together a group of good Samaritans who put in their blood, sweat and tears to clean up the grassy area between the properties in Strubens Valley. Many residents pitched in with donations of heavy duty gardening equipment and fuel for the equipment, and just good ol’ hard work and manual labour. Security services made sure everyone was safe.

Helga Marescia, who organised the clean-up said that they intend making it a monthly activity to keep the area well-maintained. Helga asked that anyone who wants to join them in the future pops her a message on 083 751 4761.
