They say charity begins at home, and home is where the heart is. This rings true for BCI K9 Academy staff, who have a special place in their hearts for animals in need.
Larissa Fourie, who works in BCI’s administrative department, sent out a call for donations to help the Mathomba informal settlement’s animals when the informal dwellers were relocated. Within a week many members of the community donated supplies to this worthy cause. “We received 250kg of dog food, 5kg cat food, 80 dog blankets and a whole bag of pre-loved toys,” explained Larissa.

On Monday, June 28 the BCI team handed over all the donations to Thys, who plans to reunite the community with their pets in the coming week. “We are grateful for the support of the community, because without them we would not be able to achieve success with our outreaches,” said Thys.

The group discussed the way forward and shared their hope that the community and their animals would settle in and thrive in their new surroundings.
The Northsider will keep the community updated on the progress of this project and when the animals and their owners would be reunited.
