Arts, crafts and unique pets

According to one of the organisers, Josie Werde, the children, vendors, parents and pets alike had great fun.

On Saturday, July 2 the Horison Methodist Church hosted their first-ever Christmas in July Market and Pet Parade.

Market-goers were welcomed to a wide variety of vendors who had some very interesting and unique handmade crafts on offer, among them beaded creations, knitted and crocheted items, authentic handmade candles and some exciting art.

After having supported various small businesses, shoppers got to choose between a range of traditional market foods to satisfy their hunger. With full tummies, it was time for the main event – the much-anticipated Pet Parade.

There were dogs, cats and rats, and then there were more exotic pets – bearded dragons and hissing cockroaches. Owners and their pets could participate in various fun categories which included the best-dressed pet, pet/ owner lookalike, most unusual pet, most obedient, and best trick.

Each pet was subsequently blessed after which they received a little certificate for their attendance and performance.

According to one of the organisers, Josie Werde, the children, vendors, parents and pets alike had great fun.

“We are pleased that the day went very well. The weather was great and everything went smoothly. The attendance exceeded out expectations, which was great. The parents enjoyed the vendors while the children enjoyed the jumping castle, which was very nice,” she said.

“Thanks to the awesome arts and crafts we managed to raise an astounding total of R6 000, which will be going straight back into the church. It was a successful event and for that we are truly grateful.”T

The church hopes to host a similar event closer to Christmas, so market-goers and vendors can have something to look forward to.
