Numerous suspects arrested in the West Rand District during the weekend

During the past weekend the police in the Johannesburg West District arrested 36 suspects from different parts of the district that include Roodepoort, Honeydew, Cosmo City, Linden, Douglasdale, Florida, Randburg and Diepsloot.

The police were conducting their special-operations duties along with their counterparts from JMPD and other role players.

Roodepoort police communications officer, Captain Juanita-Anne Yorke told the Record that a man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of parts from a motor vehicle that was stolen at a shopping centre on Beyers Naude Drive in the Fairland area.

“A case docket had been opened at Fairland police station earlier that evening, and when he tried to evade the police at a roadblock he was cornered in Windsor East.

He was arrested for drunk driving in addition to being in possession of the suspected stolen motor vehicle parts that were found in the vehicle at the time of his arrest. Investigations into the matter are currently underway,” said Yorke.

In another case in Roodepoort a male suspect was arrested for theft out of a motor vehicle. While he was breaking into a vehicle at another shopping centre in Roodepoort CBD he was cornered by a police officer and swiftly arrested on scene.

“These arrests along with the others prove that there is nowhere criminals can hide whilst the police squeeze crime to zero in the Johannesburg West District Policing Precinct,” said Yorke.

All the suspects who were arrested for various cases namely unlawful possession of drugs, common assault, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, shoplifting, theft out of a motor vehicle, possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property, driving whilst under the influence of alcohol, and bribery were charged and detained at the various police stations, and will appear in the Randburg and Roodepoort Magistrate’s courts.
