NPR Market Day improves entrepreneurial skills
Parents were very keen to get involved and support their children.
Nova Pioneer Ruimsig Grade 4 learners honed their entrepreneurial skills at their market day. They had the opportunity to sell delicious treats and toys to the rest of the school. For the past few months, Grade 4 learners have worked in groups, with the support of their parents, to plan and organise a mini-business.

They began by conducting market research among the rest of the school to determine what learners would like to eat and drink. They presented a business plan to their parents and teacher, highlighting all their ideas. Parents were very keen to get involved and support their children. This also created opportunities for parents to collaborate and foster relationships with other parents as they planned for the day.

The morning was filled with great excitement and anticipation as parents arrived with their children to set up and display all the delicious treats. There was a wonderful sense of community amongst parents and teachers. The Grade 4 learners were excited to receive their customers as the rest of the school came down to see their beautifully decorated stalls and buy from them. They learned valuable entrepreneurial skills like profit and loss, marketing, and customer service.

“We were very grateful to the parents for giving their time and support leading up to the event, and to the parents who spent the entire morning with us. The Grade 4 learners were very excited to make a profit on the day and will use these proceeds to buy a gift for the school. We will be inviting all the Grade 4 parents back to school to attend an assembly in their honour to express our appreciation for their support and hard work,” said Carla Hercules, NPR School Leader.
