RiverWel Residents Association hold fun and educational day for friends and neighbours
CSS, Honeydew CPF and stall traders contribute to family day in the sun
The neatly maintained field between Amarant and Dolfhout Streets was home for all RiverWel residents, July 16.
Members and non-members were drawn in from the street by bright cones, banners and the scent of enticing food wafting through the air of the small riverside valley. With stalls lining the banks and a Gladiator Inflatables-sponsored jumping castle keeping the children entertained, all tastes were catered for.

Strong neighbourly ties build strong communities and the purpose of the day was to give residents of the area a chance to familiarise themselves with names that might ordinarily only be seen on their smartphones in chat groups. The ever-present members of the Honeydew Community Policing Forum showed their support too, tucking into a few of the delicious prego and boerewors rolls.

A crowd pleaser was the security and fire safety demonstration by RiverWel’s dedicated private security company, Community Support Services (CSS). A service provider aligned with Fire Ops SA, CSS is able to provide first-responder relief with their own specialist firefighting team. The crew displayed the variety of gear used, how quick it takes to suit up, how to ‘tuck and roll’ when on fire, and how to implement an evacuation plan.
“We love doing these type of things with the community. We see ourselves as a safety and security company, and ensuring residents are knowledgeable and proactive is important to us,” said CSS’s Greg Pearce. The benefits of being a RiverWel member come with preferential access to CSS’ offering as well as dedicated, reliable communication channels and emergency support for medical emergencies.

Grateful for the community’s support, RiverWel chairperson Kevin Thomson said, “A big thank you to the adjoining property owners for the use of their beautifully maintained greenbelt, and the use of power points. As a first time effort, and judging by the comments of participants and visitors, it turned out to be most enjoyable.” Acknowledging everyone who contributed Thomson concluded, “On a perfect day, virtually everyone present were from RiverWel and were therefore able to meet and interact with a common interest”.
