Lions put in their 67 minutes

Bright and beautiful Jars of Hope ready to be gifted to the less privileged members of society.

In keeping with Madiba’s passion for the less fortunate, the Lions Club of Wilro Park this year included the Protea Ridge Scouts and members of the community who wanted to make a difference.

Snugglers are being made.

On Saturday, July 16 everyone gathered at the Wilro Lions Community Centre to assemble Winter Gift Packs which consist of a Snuggler, Jar of Hope, scarf, socks, a beanie and some soup.

While District Governor Sydney van Heerden, Lion President Johan Els and Lion Sandy van Heerden lent a helping hand with the Snugglers, Service Chairman Christine van der Pijl worked with the scouts to ensure the jars were ready to be filled with the ingredients.

“Everyone was so eager to help make the Snugglers – sleeping bags made with plastic sheeting, newspapers and tape – and fill the Jars of Hope. This enables us to help the underprivileged members of society who are left out in the cold during winter,” Sandy said.

According to Sandy, Lion Roleen Hunter already paid a special visit to Claw (Community Led Animal Welfare) where she delivered Jars of Hope, beanies an scarves which will be distributed to underprivileged families living in the informal settlement near the organisation.

“Michelle Weedman from Claw was so pleased to receive all the Jars of Hope which will provide meals for families with hungry tummies to feed. Other Lion teams headed out with their gifts to make sure everything got to those who needed it most,” Sandy said.

The Lions continue to strive to make a difference and help make the world a better place.
