Curro Wilgeheuwel’s U/14 soccer boys book final
Curro Wilgeheuwel’s coach, Vuyo Mbanjwa applauded his boys and said they played well for the whole game, but argued that they could have been more clinical in their finishing and exploiting the opponents.
Two neighbouring schools faced off in the finals of the Independent Schools Soccer League (ISSL).
The King’s School West Rand took on Curro Wilgeheuwel in the U/14 final at Randburg Football Club on August 3. Curro Wilgeheuwel’s U/14s earned their place in the final when they eliminated Christ Church Preparatory School 2–0 in the semifinal, July 27.

In a pulsating clash, Curro Wilgeheuwel had the best chances in the opening stages. In a frantic first few exchanges, Christ Church’s keeper Tevez Gengiah saved Tumelo Moshugi’s effort before Njabulo Ndlovu missed a golden opportunity blazing wide of a gaping goal. Christ Church nearly broke through just before half-time, but Nqubeko Makhoba’s shot flew just over the crossbar.

It was Moshugi who did score the opening goal, finding the top left-hand corner of the net with a sublime, curling finish from outside the penalty area. Although Tino Nyatsvimbo forced an excellent save from Curro Wilgeheuwel’s goalkeeper, Moshugi continued to terrorise Christ Church’s defence led by Luke Frost who made some challenging tackles to keep Christ Church in the game.

In the latter part of the second half, Moshugi and Ndlovu doubled the lead, combining to force Christ Church’s Malo Rapetso into an own goal which sealed the tie. Although they were eliminated, Christ Church manager Molefi Ace Ntsoelengwe said the boys did extremely well to reach the semis. “It is a lesson for the boys; they never reached this stage of the semi-finals before so we must give them a round of applause for their run,” said Ntsoelengwe.

Curro Wilgeheuwel’s coach, Vuyo Mbanjwa applauded his boys and said they played well for the whole game, but argued that they could have been more clinical in their finishing and exploiting the opponents.
“We were quicker than Christ Church and that was our game plan from the start to use our strength and speed to beat them in key areas to secure a win,” said Mbanjwa.
