HEC students practise their showjumping

Practice makes perfect. This event gave riders of all skill levels an opportunity to see what it is like to participate in a showjumping competition.

On Sunday, July 24 Honeydew Equestrian Centre hosted a training showjumping show. It was an opportunity for riders to get show experience and confidence in a relaxed environment.

The showjumping classes started at 08:30 with Class 1 which comprised poles on the ground. Even if riders only had one lesson prior to the show they were able to do this class. Each rider received a rosette upon completing their round.

After Class 1 the jumps are put up and become systematically higher as the riders complete each class. There are different types of competition rounds – some to see who is the fastest, and in others riders aim to get the highest score.

The goal is not to knock off any of the jump poles, and to get over the jumps at your first attempt while aiming for the fastest time or highest score. Penalties are given for knocking poles, if the horse refuses to jump, and various other errors.

The riders who placed in the top of their competition classes received rosettes and sponsored prizes.
