MVA on JG Strydom injures one
According to Panorama Residents Association, the cause of this accident is most certainly the massive pothole that has developed on JG Strydom heading towards Jim Fouche.
A motor vehicle accident occurred on JG Strydom Road heading towards Jim Fouche Road in the early hours of this morning, February 18, injuring one.

According to Panorama Residents Association, the cause of this accident is most certainly the massive pothole that has developed on JG Strydom heading towards Jim Fouche.
“The driver tried to avoid it which made her lose control of the car. She then hit a massive cement pole which resulted in her flipping the car and crashing into a wall,” the statement read.

The Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF) patrollers were able to respond to an alert made by the dedicated ’emergency only’ WhatsApp Group and assist at the accident.
The Panorama Residents Association also stated that this part of the road does not have functioning street lights ‘which is another issue, and resulted in her not seeing the holes in time’.

The patient was transported to a nearby hospital by medical services for further treatment.
“The patrollers also tried to fill the hole as a temporary solution with sand they found on the side of the road, but sadly that will be washed away after the next rain,” explained the Facebook post by Panorama Residents Association.

They concluded their report by appealing to Johannesburg Roads Agency and Rand Water to ‘come and sort out this road once and for all’ after they left it ‘in a state after the F46 pipeline project’.

In a response to the Facebook post by the Panorama Residents Association, MMC of Transport Kenny Kunene commented, “I am saddened by what I am seeing on this post. I was appointed two weeks ago as MMC of Transport. I was informed by officials that the teams can’t be dispatched to fix potholes when it is raining. I will however make them aware of this road and the danger the pothole poses. I hope the person gets well soon. I am committed to service delivery to the best of my ability under the financial circumstances the city finds itself in.”
The Northsider will keep readers updated on any further developments concerning the remedial work needed on JG Strydom Street.
