Learners pay special visit to baby sanctuary

The school’s principal Regina Marule who resides in Roodepoort said that she read an article in the Record about a two-day-old baby girl that was surrendered to Just In Time Baby Sanctuary via their Baby Saver Box.

Learners from Avante Primary School visited Just in Time Baby Sanctuary on Friday, February 24 to deliver clothes and other baby products collected from the school’s learners and staff.

The school’s principal Regina Marule said that she read an article in the Record about a two-day-old baby girl that was surrendered to Just In Time Baby Sanctuary via their Baby Saver Box.

Regina went back to her school and encouraged the head boy and head girl together with other learners and staff to work on a project that would assist the newborn.

“I want my learners to realise that life is not the same in every household, life is not easy and I saw this as a way of teaching to care for another person and make the world a better place. So, we all came here bearing gifts and everyone wanted to meet the baby that was handed over and check up on her as well as see that she is ok. As the school, we are giving her the name Mbalentle which means a beautiful flower,” said Regina.

Head boy Kgosi Moriri said that he wanted his fellow learners to remember that even though not everyone has parents, it is important to do good and help other people where you can.

According to Olivia Daniels who is a school teacher at the school, the learners collected the baby products for the whole week and showed great determination and willingness to help.

“This is very important to us as a school as it teaches our learners to care for one another, we always teach them to help one another and the less fortunate,” said Olivia. Just In Time founder Georgina Caetano said that she is grateful to the school for showing such great care and compassion after reading about the baby in the newspaper.

“We appreciate everybody’s contribution, it indeed takes a village to raise a child, thank you so much,” said Georgina.
