Bob, the giant pumpkin

Bob weighed approximately 252kg when he was eventually donated.

On December 15, 2022, the Heyns family planted pumpkin seeds for fun, not knowing that it would eventually feed many others.

Used to growing their vegetables, the Heyns’ two daughters Mia and Alyssa decided they wanted to grow pumpkins. With their father’s help, they took care of the pumpkin seeds which eventually grew into a competition-worthy pumpkin, which they dubbed ‘Bob’.

The Cradle Of Hope is a social upliftment and community development organisation that helps women and children in desperate need while simultaneously filling the needs in the community as they are identified. Our Community Feeding Program provides a meal to around 600 hungry and vulnerable adults and children every day. For many of these persons, it is their only meal of the day. We are deeply grateful,” stated Dima Tomotomo PR and Marketing Facilitator for The Cradle Of Hope.
