Global Soccer Schools International host city-wide ‘King of the Court’ tournament

Over 100 teams play across four venues in two days of small-sided action.

Only those who conquer the intensity of the cage emerge victorious.

Global Soccer Schools International (GSSI) held a multi-arena futsal fiesta in search of technical genius. The ‘King of Court’ tournament tested the U8 to U15 teams from 16 franchises across the northern provinces over two days of intense football. The tournament was held at four franchises, hosting a total of 900 players comprising 112 teams playing 336 matches in 48 hours on April 27 and 28.

Futsal differs from indoor soccer in that the ball is deemed out of play when crossing the touchline and is not continuous like the indoor version. This makes the game tighter and more precise, with less room for error, as players are not allowed to use the perimeter fence as a safety net. The result is what GSSI, formerly Supersport United Soccer Schools, have built their model on which are multiple touches of the ball in a tight space.

Florida, along with Randburg, Fourways, and Benoni, were the venues with teams being drawn into two streams, gold, and silver, at a special ceremony at DP World Wanderers. Day one had teams play three games per age group with the combined points earned by all age groups determining overall franchise log position. Day two had the top teams play a further three games against their nearest rivals in the hope of topping the points standing.

Once the dust had settled, GSSI Fourways were declared Gold Stream winners with GSSI Pretoria coming second. The Silver Stream title went to GSSI Middleburg with GSSI Florida settling for second on their patch.
