Curro opens doors for future leaders

Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel host their annual Open Day inviting all to explore their top notch facilities and limitless opportunities.

Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel recently hosted its annual open day, welcoming parents and learners eager to join their esteemed institution.

The event showcased the school’s state-of-the-art facilities, renowned academic faculty, sports fields, and the warm, welcoming energy of its amazing staff. As the guests made their way into the campus, they were welcomed with beaming smiles and kindness from the educators and staff who generously showed them around the school.

A key highlight was the introduction of the Pitso Mosimane Socer Schools (PMSS), which has partnered with Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel to offer their skilled soccer lessons during physical education (PE) periods, as well as an extra-mural activity after school.

During the PE period and Life Orientation (LO) classes, learners will take part in mass participation sessions allowing for talent identification. Curricular training will take place after school, focusing on team practice for Inter-Curro, interhouse or league games.

“We are very excited to launch our latest offering for our primary school learners as of 2025.

The PMSS Programme will elevate our Life Skills PE Curriculum as we will have six full-time coaches based at our campus to assist our educators in implementing a well-structured PE curriculum that is aligned to CAPS and therefore allowing Curro Wilgeheuwel to offer an enhanced, high-quality curriculum.

“This programme will also assist our learners with important life skills such as being a team player, learning to work with others, fair play when it comes to winning or losing, perseverance and many more.

“The bonus to the programme is that should a learner display potential during the PE lessons, then they will be referred to the after-school soccer programme,” said executive head of Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel, Lisa Dowds.

The day also featured delicious food and goodies from local vendors, as well as a stall from the school’s clinical social worker, highlighting the importance of mental health for learners in schools.

“The open day was truly a success. Both learners and parents enjoyed the tour of the school and the soccer lessons, which was the cherry on top. Our campus remains dedicated to providing a nurturing environment that cultivates academic, emotional, and social growth,” Lisa added.
