Helderkruin artist lives a life of creativity
Renowned local artist to showcase her work at exhibition.
Roodepoort is home to a very talented visual artist, Noreen Beets, whose journey is as captivating as her creations.
Growing up, Noreen always knew she was into art and enjoyed drawing; however, in high school, she was an overachiever, excelling academically and in public speaking. Her love for art simmered beneath the surface, waiting for the right moment to emerge.

After completing her matric year, she soon got married and moved to Bloemfontein. She started feeling lonely due to not having friends and not being fluent in Afrikaans. She found the perfect remedy to her loneliness – her craftwork, which then reopened the door to her passion for art.
“I was only 35 years old when I eventually delved into art and started opening my own studio. I have a passion to speak visually, and I use this space to let loose and express myself, ” she said.
Her expertise spans various techniques, including drawing in graphite, ink, and pastel, and also explores disciplines ranging from still life, landscapes, portraits, and collages. She also writes poetry, songs, and prose.
Additionally, she is an art teacher and provides photo framing services, demonstrating her dedication to enhancing the overall experience of visual art.
Now at 67 years old, her knowledge of art is expansive and inspiring, not just to her students but also to those lucky enough to be in her presence when she shares what she’s learned.
“People may not always get the same understanding from my art, but I want everyone to have their interpretation and understanding because art is different to everyone.”
Excitingly, Noreen is hosting an art exhibition which runs until April 25 in Linden at the Robert Badenhorst Gallery.
This exhibition is called Art En’Twine – A Language of Talking Threads, which will showcase the work of Noreen and another local artist, Gritt Cammeratt.
“During this evening [opening night] we will be among other things exploring the use of a rope and thread as visual metaphors for our links to the past, present, future and the spiritual realm,” she explained.
