Die Ruiter learner earns Central-West U13 Sevens selection

Laerskool Die Ruiter's rising rugby star secures a place in the Central-West U13 Sevens team.

Laerskool Die Ruiter is beaming with pride after one of their learners, Thabo Mokoena, was selected for the Central-West U13 Sevens rugby team.

Mokoena also earned the opportunity to participate in the Golden Lions Sevens trials, which took place at Hoërskool Florida on July 27.

Coach Reggie Gama said he is incredibly proud of Mokoena’s accomplishment, describing his selection to the Central-West team as a significant milestone and a testament to his hard work and dedication.

Speaking to the Roodepoort Record, the Grade Seven learner said he only started playing rugby last year and initially did not realise how much he would grow to love the sport.

“It was an absolute honour, and I’m proud of myself for getting the opportunity to represent my school at district level. I enjoyed all my trials, and I used the opportunity to sharpen my skills and become a better player,” he said.
