Block watch monthly meeting highlights need for increased vigilance
Safety concerns addressed during monthly meeting.
Florida Block Watch (FBW) held their monthly meeting at Hoërskool Florida on May 20, updating residents on progress with their various community initiatives, including their camera project, which is gaining momentum.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Gauteng Traffic Department, the Florida Police Station, and local security companies.

During their presentation, the Gauteng Traffic Department representative explained their role in community safety and crime prevention, and highlighted how their close collaboration with the police via the Gauteng Traffic Wardens, is making a difference on local level.

In their turn, speakers from Florida police as well as local security companies emphasised the need for increased vigilance, and reporting that crime rates have increased in various areas throughout the policing precinct.
A presentation by Fidelity Secure Fire provided vital fire safety tips, including safe heating practices and information on how to quickly and effectively respond to a fire emergency.

FBW committee member Casper van der Westhuizen offered an in-depth explanation of the workings of the camera infrastructure, while chairperson John Kirsten highlighted early successes of their camera project and once again urged residents with street-facing cameras to join the initiative.
