Fleurhof rocked by CIT robbery
A CIT robbery took place on Helpmekaar Road in Fleurhof this afternoon.
A cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery took place on Helpmekaar Road in Fleurhof this afternoon, September 12, with a CIT vehicle reportedly attacked amid heavy gunfire.
When the Roodepoort Record visited the scene, a damaged CIT vehicle and another burnt-out car were standing in the debris-strewn road.
According to Florida CPF chairperson Riaz Jogee, who was at the scene with his team assisting police with traffic control, the first reports of the attack emerged on emergency groups at about 16:20.
A large crowd had gathered at the scene, with police working to keep curious onlookers away.Initial reports indicate that the CIT vehicle was waylaid by several other vehicles before heavy gunfire erupted.
There is currently no indication of the condition of the driver and occupants of the CIT vehicle, or whether the perpetrators managed to escape with any money.
The Record has approached the police’s district communications co-ordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlane, as well as provincial police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, for further information.An update will follow once comment is received.
