Fleurhof Biker Boys: Creativity on two wheels
Boys between the ages of 12 to 19 in Fleurhof create custom-made bicycles using old repurposed parts and turn them into stunning works of art
In the heart of Fleurhof, a group of young cyclists has found a unique way to express themselves – by transforming ordinary bicycles into stunning works of art.

The group, Fleurhof Biker Boys, was initially started in 2021 by two friends, Thato Mokoena and Thulane Masombuka, who decorated their bicycles to make them stand out. Others were inspired, and the group quickly expanded, drawing about 14 members from Fleurhof, Florida and Braamfischer.
“We started this group to stay away from drugs, alcohol, and other bad things,” said Thulane. “We hope to inspire others to be creative and be innovative by making something out of nothing,” said Thulane.
These custom-made bicycles are created using repurposed parts and we weld them into unique designs. The boys then use old frames and buy pedals, handlebars, and rims to build their bikes from scratch. They then paint them in bright colours, making each bike one-of-a-kind.

“To achieve this goal, we save our lunch money to buy parts and make our bikes special,” said Thato. “It’s hard work, but it’s worth it when we see our bikes come to life.

“We get together on certain days and then we ride to different places like malls, for example, to showcase our work and buy food,” said Thato.
Their creations are not just functional; they’re also works of art. Each bike is a reflection of its owner’s personality and style. The group’s passion for cycling and creativity has brought them together and given them a sense of purpose.
