RiverWel hosts community braai

Weltevereden Park residents spent a sunny day socialising and having a braai.

RiverWel Residents Association (RA) members made the most of the sunny day on Saturday, June 21, getting together at the scenic Amarant Street Park for a community braai.

According to committee member Neville Burnett, the freezing weather earlier in the morning had them worried that no one would show up.

“Luckily, the ice-cold morning wind died down, and it turned into a lovely day. We have a wonderful turnout.”

RA members and families descended on the park from about 13:00, and it wasn’t long before the smell of braai fires filled the air.

According to the RA chairperson, Newton Kemp, the RA can’t be all work and no play.

“Our teams spend so much time and effort uplifting our neighbourhood, cleaning the river and green belts, maintaining open spaces and the palisade fencing that surrounds them, that it would be a shame for them not to get the chance to enjoy the fruits of their labour.”

Honeydew CPF patrol leader Tony da Silva, who had brought along the whole clan, adds that it is good to see the park used for what it should be: enjoyment by the community.

As the gathered residents whiled away the afternoon, laughing and socialising, children did what children do best – play.

“It was a huge success,” concludes committee member Kevin Thomson.
