Fake goods seized during raid in Honeydew
The bold operation turned a tide against illegal activities taking place in and around the community.
On Saturday, November 23, a joint operation between the Honeydew police and Honeydew CPF successfully targeted the illicit trade of counterfeit goods and contraband in the Honeydew Policing Precinct.
The operation carried out at a local establishment, resulted in the confiscation of counterfeit items valued at an estimated R3.3m.

Among the seized goods were illicit cellphone accessories, fake clothing and shoes, and unauthorised LED blue lights and sirens, all of which according to the Counterfeit Goods Act 37 of 1997 are illegal and violate intellectual property laws. In addition, four fines were issued during the raid, underscoring the ongoing efforts to combat crime and protect the rights of consumers and businesses.

The operation was supported by additional resources from GP Tactical and CGFA Firefighters – NPC, which provided extra manpower and essential equipment, enabling authorities to gain access to areas that were otherwise difficult to reach.

Brigadier Anesh Maharaj, the Honeydew Police Station Commander, confirmed the operation’s success and reiterated the significance of combating counterfeit goods.
“Dealing with counterfeit goods is a crime and robs the economy of this country,” said Maharaj. “This operation highlights the crucial role of community partnerships in safeguarding public safety and ensuring compliance with laws that protect both intellectual property and public well-being,” Maharaj concluded.
