WATCH: Community holds candlelight vigil for slain Jayden-Lee

Fleurhof residents gather to honour 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek, who was found dead at his complex.

Community members, friends and family gathered on Thursday evening, May 15, at Swazi’s Place for a candlelight ceremony dedicated to 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek.

The ceremony started with a song and a prayer, opened by Pastor Granvil Alexandra. He thanked the community for their unwavering support of the family during this difficult time.

Meek’s body was found dumped in front of his mother’s unit at the Swazi’s Place complex on May 14.

His body was allegedly bruised, indicating that he may have been strangled and assaulted.

He was reported missing on May 13 after he was dropped off by his transport outside the complex, but he failed to reach home.

Police have opened an inquest to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. A K9 Unit team was also deployed at the complex for further investigations.

Community members vowed to demand justice for this young boy.
